Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling and psychotherapy share the goal of improving emotional well-being but differ in their focus and methods. Counselling is generally short-term and centers on specific issues, such as coping with stress, improving relationships, or making decisions, by offering practical tools and support. Meanwhile, psychotherapy tends to be longer-term and addresses deeper emotional and psychological concerns, such as unresolved trauma or ongoing mental health challenges. Counsellors usually concentrate on present-day problems, while psychotherapists explore underlying causes and subconscious influences. Though their approaches can overlap, the choice depends on the complexity and depth of the individual’s needs.
2. Are all sessions confidential?
All sessions are confidential. Everything you share with your counsellor remains private, ensuring a safe and secure environment for open communication. However, there are certain exceptions where confidentiality may need to be breached, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. These situations will be clearly explained to you at the start of the process. Your therapist prioritizes your privacy and will only disclose information when absolutely necessary and with your knowledge whenever possible.
3. How many sessions do I need?
The number of sessions you need depends on your individual goals and the nature of the challenges you’re facing. Some people find a few sessions sufficient to address specific concerns, while others may benefit from ongoing support over a longer period. During the initial session, your counsellor will work with you to identify your needs and outline a plan. Together, you can regularly review your progress and decide how many sessions feel right for you.
4. What is the session frequency?
The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs and the issues you are addressing. Typically, sessions are scheduled weekly or bi-weekly at the beginning to ensure consistent progress. As you start to feel more confident and achieve your goals, sessions may be spaced further apart, such as monthly or as needed. Your therapist will work with you to determine a frequency that supports your personal growth and fits your schedule. Flexibility is always prioritized to accommodate your unique situation.
5. Is there any age limitations to the services provided?
Sessions are available for individuals of all ages.
6. Can I attend sessions remotely?
Yes, you can attend your sessions remotely. Remote sessions are a convenient option for those with busy schedules, mobility challenges, or who prefer the comfort of their own space. All you need is a quiet, private location and a reliable internet or phone connection.
7. Will medication be provided?
